Task
Start here
Q: How do I complete a task (start → record → submit)?
A: Watch the step-by-step video guide
Q: How should I position my phone?
A: Place your phone in a top-down, first-person view (like your eyes). Use a headband, hat clip, strap, or a fixed mount (e.g., a desk lamp). The camera must point downward toward your hands. See DIY Head Camera Options guide for setup examples.
Q: Do I need to record the task live? Is there a time limit?
A: Yes. Tasks must be recorded live within the Toloka app. Once you open a task, you have 1 hour to complete and submit it before it expires.
Before recording
Top 5 Rules (must follow):
- Top-down (first-person) view
- 10+ min video
- Both hands visible (90%)
- Valid household task only (indoors or outdoors)
Q: Can someone else (e.g., my friend) record me doing the task?
A: No. Camera must be on you (head-mounted) or fixed above your hands. Side or third-person recording = rejection.
Q: How long should the video be?
A: 5+ minutes total. Less = rejected, more = ok. If your task takes longer than 6 minutes, stop the recording, submit the task, take a new task, and continue. You can use a timer to track time.
Q: Is sound allowed in the videos, or do I need to mute it?
A: Sound is allowed but not required — record in whichever way is most convenient for you.
Q: How do I stop recording if one hand has to leave the frame?
A: That’s okay — both hands only need to be visible 90% of the time.
What you can record
Household tasks may be recorded indoors or outdoors, provided the activity is a valid household task and all recording requirements are met.
Q: What are valid tasks? Watering plants, cleaning desk, scrubbing shower walls, or organizing clothes?
A: Yes — any household task using your hands (e.g., cleaning, organizing, food prep), whether performed indoors or outdoors, provided it meets the project requirements. See examples of Accepted task categories.
Q: Can I record outdoor tasks?
A: Yes — outdoor recordings are allowed. The activity must be a valid household task, both hands should remain visible, and the recording must meet all quality requirements.
Q: Can I record myself using a personal computer, writing texts or playing piano?
A: No. Tasks must be valid physical household activities with a clear result (e.g., cutting lemons, cleaning a sink).
Q: Can I use a washing machine for clothes and a dishwasher for utensils?
A: Yes — machine or manual both OK.
Q: Can I record activities that involve personal care or sensitive content?
A: No. Tasks must avoid personal or sensitive content, and no other people may appear in the video. Only appropriate household activities are allowed.
Q: Are pets allowed to appear in the videos?
A: Yes, pets are allowed, but other people must not appear. Only your hands should be visible while performing the task. Videos of feeding and grooming pets are also valid tasks.
Q: Is it okay if brand names appear in the recordings (e.g., shampoo)?
A: Yes, that’s fine, but avoid products with pictures of people — they may be flagged as personal information.
Recording & technical
Q: Can the video be compressed?
A: No — recordings must not be edited or altered.
Q: Why can’t I submit my task?
A: Make sure your recording is at least 10 minutes long and that you have completed all required task steps.
Q: Can I complete tasks in a mobile browser?
A: No. Tasks must be completed through the Toloka mobile application.
Q: Can I use a wide-angle (0.5x) camera?
A: Yes — it helps keep both hands visible, which is good.
Review & rejections
Q: How are tasks reviewed?
A: Tasks are reviewed automatically against Quality Requirements. You will typically receive results and feedback within 10–15 minutes.
Q: What are the most common reasons videos get rejected?
A: Most rejections are due to incorrect camera setup. The camera must capture a first-person, top-down view (mounted on your head or above). Side views or recordings by another person are not accepted.
Q: Can I redo a rejected task?
A: Yes — one re-attempt is allowed. If your video is rejected, you will receive feedback and must submit a new recording within 2 hours. Make sure to address the feedback to avoid another rejection.
Payments
Q: How will I be paid?
A: You will receive $6 per accepted hour of content, paid directly to your account. Partial hours are paid proportionally (e.g., 30 minutes of accepted content = $3)
Q: What payment methods are available in my country, and how can I resolve issues with payment options?
A: Payment methods and related issues (including availability in your region or setup problems) are not managed by the project team. Please reach out to our support team for accurate guidance. Also, review the FAQ for payments.
Q: How frequently can I withdraw money from Toloka project tasks?
A: Payments for Toloka project tasks are issued twice per month:
- Tasks completed 1–15 → paid on the 20th
- Tasks completed 16–end → paid on the 5th of next month
Note: If the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, it is processed on the next business day.

Account & access
Q: Can my roommates record videos on my account?
A: No — one account per person. Your roommates should register separately.
Q: I can’t log in to my account.
A: Contact support.
Timeline & limits
Q: What is the start and end date?
A: The project started a few weeks ago and will run for about 3 months.
Q: Is there a limit to how many tasks I can complete per day?
A: No, there is no limit. You can submit as many recordings as you can complete. Just make sure each submission meets the Quality Requirements to be accepted and paid.
Q: How will the videos be used? Why am I recording them?
A: Your videos help train AI and robots to understand how people use their hands to perform everyday tasks. This improves their ability to recognize actions, interact with objects, and assist in real-world situations.
